Herve comes up trumps again but he has a competitor.

Babil Pineau D'Aunis: Is this great or what?

So great, the phone camera couldn't be reached before the bottle was emptied.

This was from Herve at L'Etiquette' (Paris) from where so many good things come

but on this trip to Paris we discovered that Divvino around the corner from where we usually stay in the Marais is under new management and is now a competitor for Herve in terms of interesting bottles.

The big news here was a bottle of Joubertin. This is an exceptionally rare grape variety:

Joubertin; 'Wine Grapes' tells us that this was a cross between Peloursin and Persan and is no longer cultivated. But here is was!

There were two other interesting wines: this pricey white from the Auvergne from a grape called ChardonnayMusquate. Chardonnay Musquate (aka Musque) is a mutation of normal Chardonnay with grapey Musquat-like aromas. It was first observed in Pouilly and Arbois according to Pierre Galet.

The other was promising in that the grape was called Gamay Saint-Romain, but sadly Gamay Saint Romain is just a synonym for Gamay Noir. Never mind, even this little gobbet adds to the gayety of ampelographers.

Many thanks to the knowledgeable young people at Divvino!
